As emotional beings, the key element we always try to figure out is people’s intentions.
No doubt about it, there is almost always an emotion behind any intention.

And beyond people’s words, you are figuring out in attunement what they want, their goals, which do register physically in you if you pay attention.

Let us examine this case scenario:
Someone you know suddenly shows an unusual interest in your life and goes ahead to give you the kind of attention you’ve never had before.

Do you think is an attempt to connect or to distract, a means to soften you so they can use you for their purpose?

As confused as we can be in this circumstance now, look at what I advise you to do:
i). Instead of focusing on their words, which come with interest and excitement, focus on the overall feeling tone that you pick up.

Within that circumstance ask yourself these three questions:
1). How deeply are they listening to you?
2). What is the nature of their eye contact, is it consistent?
3). Do you feel like even though they seem to be listening to you, they are absorbed in themselves?

With these questions, you can be able to ascertain when one is manipulative or operating in reality.

Remember this: When you are the object of sudden attention but it seems unreliable, you should know that they probably intend to ask you something. On many occasions, this might be to use and manipulate you in some way.
